The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years. Presently, SMAG is the market leader in the world, using grabs for global cargo handling applications, agriculture and waste disposal.
