Inventor Jerome Case founded the business of CASE in Racine, when he began the construction of threshing machinery. Later the company gained recognition internationally as the first builder of steam engines for its agricultural application. Eventually, the company grew to become the world's largest manufacturers of steam engines.
By the year 1912, Case had become established in the construction machinery industry. The quickly started to manufacture road building machines such as steam rollers and graders. Case grew their construction machine company through different acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation during 1957. Case had expanded their business by the mid-1990s to become the leading maker of medium-sized to light-sized construction machines.
During the year 1999, Case merged with New Holland to become CNH Global. This company became responsible for marketing several of the world's leading brands of construction and agricultural equipment.
