The forklift is a material handling machinery utilized to raise and transport loads from one location to another. Every component of a forklift has a specific function. Different components can be utilized to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components which lift and lower the load. There are various kinds of masts for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you could power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.

Cab
Situated within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated in the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
